“Knowledge is power.” is a common expression based upon truth. In the workforce this can mean that to to get a better paying job the employee must be qualified for the position. Usually college graduates are preferred for well paying positions over non college graduates. For many jobs a collage degree is absolutely required.Studies have shown that the hourly wage of a college graduate is more than double that of someone who never attended college. Therefore before a student leaves high school it will be a good idea to first get the necessary requirements and earn that high school degree as they will need it to enter college.
The first college entrance requirement is a high school diploma. This means the student should complete all the necessary requirements in order to graduate with the rest of his class.
Even before high school is over, the Board of Education requires students to take the SAT’s or the student aptitude exam. This serves as a general entrance exam for every college in the country. There is a passing score, however, each institution has the right to set their own standard before anyone is accepted.
Students also have to complete and submit a college application form. One of the most important items to fill out is the major that the person would like to pursue. Applicants are given a few options so that if the slot in the first has been filled, there is still a chance that one could make it in another course.
The student will not be able to give the full transcript of records until the 12th grade since school has not yet ended. This is the reason colleges and universities will be reviewing the grades from the 8th to the 11th grade. When these documents are in order, they must be submitted together to the admission’s office before the specified deadline.
Not all colleges and universities in the United States or in some other parts of the world will look at the academic records as the sole basis for accepting a student. Many colleges require that the applicants write an essay and complete a formal interview with the admissions officer.
The statements made by the student could mean the difference between being accepted or not. It will be a good idea to prepare for questioning and to think about the interview, perhaps to even rehearse answers to anticipated questions beforehand to insure that a favorable impression is given.
When all of these college entrance requirements have been met, the student will just have to wait for a few months before receiving a letter in the mail. The letter may say that the person has been accepted or the application has been rejected. For that reason it is wise to apply for several colleges.
